If Search cannot get any weirder Google has creasta ed new search panel called “Discussions and Forums” listed below the adverters and yes yoiu guessed it above the Organic Search Results. But why?
OK, the more cynical among those will probably think the okay Gemini is lagging behind ChatGPT’s AI battle for search dominance. Whereas Grog has all the new information and news that is generated on Twitter, what exactly does Gemini have?
Well, enter discussions and forums search panels, AKA let’s include some more Reddit results. Reddit is very much an American invention. The forums’ Q&A give me information on why my girlfriend shouldn’t leave me on that type of website. However, it is very popular. It’s been reported that the website has 430 million signed-up monthly users, with an impressive 30 million plus from the UK. This seems a little unbelievable, as there are only 40 million adults in the UK.
So why has Google bowed down to Reddit
Google has never had much luck with social media. If you recall Google+, you’re likely aware that Google failed. Reddit looks like a forum in the old sense of the word; however, if you go to Wikipedia and search for the Reddit story, you will find that they describe themselves as a social media platform. If you haven’t used the website, you will find it is full of strange, quirky behaviour where you’re assigned a username, not your own.
If you want to post in various forums, you need a certain amount of karma. Karma points are allocated by other users when you make a particularly supportive or funny comment. At Vanilla Circus, we have been compelled to utilise Reddit, as Google now aims to integrate social media relevance into its Gemini AI platform.
- Personally, I actually quite like posting on Reddit. It’s a mixture of moronic, tragic and entertaining. We are BubblyAppearance998 , which grows on you.
However, my opinion is not important; what is important is that Google has done a deal with Reddit, and that Reddit is now part of Google’s AI strategy. Hence, the new discussions on the Forum panel, in case you missed the Reddit search results that are now clogging up Google’s organic search results.
Are we going back in time?
Do people still think forums are relevant, or are they the hangout of the truly tragic, or is the forum on its way back? Looks like all the naysayers were wrong. Social discussion a la 2010 is back.
